Chennai: The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) achieved a significant milestone with the successful launch of the INSAT 3DS satellite from the second launch pad in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh at 05:35 pm.In a statement to the media following the launch, ISRO Chairman Somnath confirmed that the satellite has been accurately positioned in its intended orbital path. Highlighting its crucial role, he emphasized that the INSAT 3DS satellite will greatly enhance climate change prediction and weather forecasting capabilities. Notably, the satellite is designed to capture and transmit information and images every 25 minutes.Somnath underscored the importance of the satellite's data for various departments within the Ministry of Earth Sciences, including the India Meteorological Department, the National Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting, and the National Institute of Ocean Technology. These organizations will leverage the satellite data to deliver enhanced weather forecasts and related services to the public.Acknowledging the growing participation of industrial companies in the space sector, the Chairman expressed optimism about the potential contributions of the private sector in advancing space exploration and technology.Looking ahead, he revealed that the current year marks a period of intensive preparations for the ambitious Gaganyaan mission. ISRO plans to undertake several stages of preparation, including utilizing robotic technology for lunar exploration to retrieve samples from the moon and bring them back to Earth.The successful launch of the INSAT 3DS satellite represents a significant step forward for India's space program, signaling its commitment to advancing scientific research and space exploration endeavors.
