Tamil Nadu consistently leads the nation in Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER), reflecting its commitment to education accessibility. The state government continues to pursue strategies to bolster enrollment rates.In line with this commitment, the Department of School Education organized the South Asian Conference on Higher Education to enlighten government school students about opportunities in higher education, particularly abroad. The conference aimed to familiarize students with foreign universities, available courses, application processes, and scholarship avenues.Anbizh Mahesh Poiyamozhi, Minister of School Education, inaugurated the conference and emphasized the state government's implementation of 57 schemes to enhance the school education sector. He urged students to share knowledge about overseas higher education opportunities.During the opening ceremony, Richard Chin, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center, highlighted Taiwan's scholarship programs for Indian students.Representatives from Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore attended the conference, engaging with students and detailing higher education prospects in their respective countries. Government school students actively interacted with these representatives.The event featured testimonials from Jayashree and Aaval Sindhu, who transitioned from government schools to universities in Taiwan, along with videos showcasing the achievements of government school students and the "Manarkaenee" app.Ira Sudhan, Member Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Model Schools Association, highlighted that 274 government school students were selected for higher education institutions last year, including three students who secured opportunities to study in Taiwan.The conference also included captivating art programs by government school students. Principal Malathi extended gratitude to attendees, including senior officials, teachers, and government school students, for their participation.The South Asian Conference on Higher Education provided a platform for government school students to explore broader horizons and aspire to higher education goals.
